Summer Flowers in an Urban Park

The park across the street, tucked up against a major interstate, used heavily for organized recreation, dog walking, and playground fun, never ceases to amaze me with the unfolding of nature season after season. Gratitude to the park manager and grounds crew that left these large pockets of un-mowed areas, havens for fields of summer flowers. Pollinators follow, as do birds, and soon enough, people’s awe. A horse shoe player across the path calls over, “pretty amazing, huh? I love those.” Me too. Imagine what could be if we left it all un-mowed, and replanted, revitalized large swaths of manicured lawn. Give space for wild to return, let our own wild one emerge.
